Cincinnatus Gives Back: Meet the Wieland Family

by Gina Horner

Giving back is important to us, and this month our quarterly Referral Program was able to give to a cause from the heart. April is Donate Life Month, which is a celebration of the lifesaving gift of organ, eye and tissue donation. That’s why Cincinnatus Insurance chose the Wieland Heartbeat Bear Project of their First Quarter Charity for 2021!

Meet the Wielands

When Debbie and Rick Wieland lost their son Ricky in a car accident, they made sure to uphold his decision to be an organ, eye and tissue donor. Ricky was the kind of guy who gave back to others whenever he could, and Debbie has made it her mission to do the same. With her husband Rick, they make bears for families of organ donors. In the face of their heartbreaking loss, giving back to others has become their mission.

Bears with a Purpose

But these bears aren’t just your typical bear. They are given to families that lost a loved one who had chosen to be an organ donor after their death. Inside the bear is a recording of their loved one’s heartbeat. “These are in memory of my son and I want whoever gets one to know each one is made with love and care,” Debbie said. “Every family should have their loved ones heartbeat.” The Wieland’s project is funded solely through community donations.

A Record-breaking Donation

With that in mind, a pillar of our agency culture at Cincinnatus Insurance is giving back whenever we can. That’s how our Referral Program was born: for every referral we receive, we give $10 to a local charity in Greater Cincinnati. This quarter, we had a record-breaking 70 referrals, which allowed us to give $700 to Debbie and Rick. According to them, it costs about $10 to make one bear. This means we are helping 70 families get an unforgettable keepsake from their loved one in their darkest hour.

How You Can Help

Do you know someone who would benefit from the savings and advocacy from an advisor at Cincinnatus Insurance? Tell them about us! Encourage them to connect with us, and make sure they tell us you sent them. For every referral we receive, a local charity will benefit. Our charity changes each quarter, and we have selected Cancer Family Care for the 2nd Quarter of 2021.
